OVERVIEW
Stunning 2D & 3D Performance
At the center of the RAGE 128 PRO's performance is a unique 128-bit,
SuperScalar Rendering architecture designed to operate at dramatically
elevated memory and engine speeds. Single-Pass Multi Texturing (SMT) enables
advanced 3D effects like texturing, lighting and shading at full
performance. Additional gains are obtained with ATI's unique Twin-Cache
Architecture (TCA) which incorporates texture and pixel cache to increase
the effective memory bandwidth for extra performance. The chip also
incorporates ATI's proven Concurrent Command Engine (CCE), which takes full
advantage of AGP 4X data flow techniques through system memory for
unprecedented Pentium III performance.
No Compromise True Color Performance
New 3D applications that use complex textures and aggressive
multi-texturing require 32 bit per pixel (bpp) true color rendering to look
their best. The RAGE 128 PRO's balanced graphics pipeline operates at 32 bpp
with virtually no performance penalty at any resolution over the lower
fidelity 16 bpp dithered mode, allowing users to experience these color rich
applications the way the artist intended.
All-Inclusive Multimedia Experience
RAGE 128 PRO uses integrated DVD/MPEG-2 decoding, including iDCT
(inverse Discrete Cosine Transform) and motion compensation for top quality
DVD with lowest CPU usage. The hardware sub-picture decoder, with
interpolating scaler and alpha compositor, provides optimal DVD sub-picture
quality. RAGE 128 PRO also includes an enhanced, 16-bit video port for
value-added features like external DTV decode (all 18 ATSC digital TV
formats), video capture and TV output.
Advanced 3D Features
RAGE 128 PRO is optimized for both DX6.1 and OpenGL acceleration with
features such as vertex buffers, direct walk of vertex lists, AGP 4X
texturing, texture compression, multi-texturing, texture lighting, shadows,
bump mapping, alpha blending, fog (vertex, range & table-based), 32-bit
Z-buffering and stencil planes.
Integrated TMDS and Scaling Support for Digital Flat Panel Monitors
Integrated 160Mhz pixel clock TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential
Signaling) transmitter and integrated ratiometric scaler with SXGA
(1280x1024) source input scaled up to UXGA (1600x1200) output resolutions
for digital flat panel monitor support. Digital Flat Panel enabled PC's are
realized with less printed circuit board real estate and substantial cost
saving through elimination of an external discrete TMDS transmitter. The
RAGE 128 PRO TMDS transmitter design meets all VESA and DDWG specifications.
